Who is responsible for your data?

Politikpunkt Media Ltd., registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry) and based at Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000, is the data controller for all personal data collected via politikpunkt.de. The editor-in-chief, Martin Krüger, oversees compliance with UK data protection law. For any data protection queries, contact our editorial team at info@politikpunkt.de or our legal address at privacy@politikpunkt.de.

As a Swedish digital news publisher owned by a Gibraltar-registered company, we process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our registered office and main phone (+356 2138 9009) are in Malta, but we apply UK standards as our primary framework for reader trust.

What personal data do we collect and why?

We collect only the personal data necessary to deliver journalism, manage subscriptions, respond to queries, and comply with legal obligations. This includes names, email addresses, IP addresses, and browser information when you contact us, sign up for our newsletter, or interact with our site. We never collect sensitive data such as political opinions or health information unless you voluntarily provide it in a tip or comment.

Specifically, we collect: (a) contact details from emails sent to info@politikpunkt.de, tips@politikpunkt.de, or individual staff addresses; (b) newsletter subscription data via our form at /about-us/newsletter/; (c) metadata such as IP address, browser type, and page views through our analytics tools, which are anonymised where possible; (d) any information you provide when submitting a correction or complaint to corrections@politikpunkt.de. All processing is based on legitimate interests (journalism, security, reader communication) or consent (newsletter, cookies).

How do we use your personal data?

We use your personal data solely for the purposes you provided it: to send you our newsletter, respond to your messages, investigate tips, process corrections, and improve our editorial content. We never sell personal data to third parties. Affiliate links and advertising partnerships do not involve sharing your data with advertisers without your consent.

Email addresses collected via /about-us/tip-us/ are used only to follow up on your tip and are deleted once the matter is resolved, unless you agree to be added to our contacts list. Newsletter subscribers can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Analytics data helps us understand what topics matter to our readers; we aggregate this data and do not profile individual users for advertising.

Who do we share your data with?

We share personal data only with trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, such as our email delivery platform, website hosting provider, and analytics tool. These processors are contractually bound to comply with UK GDPR and may not use your data for any other purpose. We do not transfer your data outside the UK or European Economic Area unless adequate safeguards are in place.

In rare cases, we may disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights, or to investigate potential breaches of our /terms-of-use/. We never share data with political parties, advertisers, or third-party marketers without explicit consent. Our fact-checking team led by Nina Wolff (/fact-checking-policy/) may access contact details only to verify sources; those details are not stored longer than necessary.

How long do we retain your data?

We retain personal data only as long as the purpose for which it was collected remains active. Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe or after two years of inactivity. Correspondence and tip submissions are deleted within six months of resolution. Analytics logs are anonymised after 14 months. Legal or regulatory obligations may require longer retention for specific records.

Our retention schedule is reviewed annually by our data protection point of contact, editor-in-chief Martin Krüger. If you request deletion, we will erase your data promptly unless we are legally required to keep it (e.g., to defend a legal claim). You can request deletion by writing to info@politikpunkt.de or using the contact details in our /about-us/privacy-policy/.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@politikpunkt.de or +46 8 525 030 61. We will respond within 30 days. If unsatisfied, you may lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

We will verify your identity before processing any request. There is no fee for most requests. Because we process data for journalism purposes, some rights may be limited where necessary to protect editorial independence, freedom of expression, or the rights of others. We explain any limitations in our response.

How do we use cookies?

We use cookies and similar technologies to enable core site functions, analyse traffic, and (with consent) personalise content. Our advertising and affiliate partners may set cookies for measurement purposes. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via our cookie settings tool. For full details, please read our separate /about-us/cookie-policy/.

Strictly necessary cookies are always active; analytical and marketing cookies require your consent. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites for advertising without your explicit opt-in. Our cookie policy explains each cookie category, expiry, and purpose. By continuing to use this site without adjusting settings, you consent to our use of cookies as described.
